Tour of America's Dairyland coming to Spring Prairie!

Bill Koch from the Kwik Trip Tour of America's Dairyland (ToAD) is coming to our board meeting on Monday April 14th, to provide some information about a potential alternate route going through our town of Spring Prairie. (updated agenda coming soon!)

Currently the route runs entirely through the town of Lafayette, however, they recently learned of construction that could wipe out part of their pre-determined route. They are asking the Town for use of an alternate plan. Please see below for what the route can look like in July. (second link)

from Bill:

The Kwik Trip Tour of America’s Dairyland (ToAD), planning for our 16 year of racing as America’s largest competitive road bike series! While our 11 consecutive days run June 19-29, we are honored to announce that our national governing body for the sport of cycling in the United States, USA Cycling, asked us to host their 2025 and 2026 Masters and Junior National Championships right here in southeastern WI (https://roadnats.usacycling.org/masters-juniors-road)! The event itself starts on our second last day of ToAD and runs for five consecutive days through July 2nd. On that very day, we are hoping to stage a road race starting and ending at Alpine Valley’s Music Theater complex, but running on several township roads and County Hwy D. We had a course picked that would lie entirely in the Town of LaFayette, but discovered last week there is construction planned for Potter Road this summer that could very well eliminate that course as n option if construction is ongoing on July 2nd. We found though a great second course option (https://www.strava.com/routes/3343292790740228500) that is on a combination of Hwy D, La Fayette and Spring Prairie roads that would be a great course as well, but requires us to ask for your permission and permit to race on these roads.

Thus far:

  1. We have verbal approval for the use of roadway and parking lot at Alpine Valley awaiting a contract
  2. Walworth County permit approval for the use of Hwy D, but again will await a new approval for the next course assuming you approve as well (Amy Limones coped here).
  3. Working relationship with Walworth County Sheriff and specifically Captain Josh Staggs (copied here) for the employ of multiple sheriffs to manage traffic and race management by what we term “rolling enclosures,” where all roads remain open to traffic while the main packs/pelotons are lead by sheriff car and multiple other vehicles to allow pack to pass unobstructed, but then it’s traffic as usual.
  4. LaFayette approved our request through their permitting process for both the former and new course options just earlier tonight.

If you have any questions or concerns about this potential alternative route and use, please come to the meeting on monday night.
